Stem Compounds

A Stem Compound is a compound word whose stem is made up of two or more simple or compounded stems.  The final stem of the compound word is the one that receives inflection.

For example, the Stem Compound flāvicomus, “yellow-haired,” has the stem flāvicomo-, and it is made from flāvo-, the stem of flāvus, “yellow,” and comā-, the stem of coma, “hair.”  The part of flāvicomo-, the stem of the Stem Compound flāvicomus, that receives inflection is the part that derives from comā-.
