Two Groups of Compound Words in Latin

     Compound words in Latin may be classified into two main groups:

  • Stem Compounds (or Genuine Compounds)

  • Syntactic Compounds (or Pseudocompounds)

     Stem Compounds comprise stems or modifications of stems, but Syntactic Compounds comprise particles or entire words.
